OUTLINE OF MASTER CLASSES
1st Master Class: Pattern Audit
Overview: Colleen explores one-dimensional paper patterns & how they translate into three dimensions. She teaches a practical approach by demonstrating a pattern audit; this highlights what to look for in a good pattern.
2nd Master Class: Copying Samples
Overview: By understanding the basic rules of pattern making & structures that underlie all patterns, Colleen translates this into copying samples without unpicking or damaging a garment. Learning to reverse engineer a garment to make an exact copy.
3rd Master Class: Grading and Laying-Up for Cutting
Overview: Colleen will share techniques that have been developed over the years that make grading accurate, time saving & simple. She will cover: how to check a graded pattern for accuracy, ratings, & markers.
4th Master Class: Costing, Production and Cutting Orders
Overview: What a cutting order & costing schedule should look like, when used properly. How to tell your breakeven costs & produce profit. Colleen will introduce costing the business owner’s time into the cost of a garment.
5th Master Class: Client Profiling
Overview: It takes 7 universal keys unlock women & their personalities. Designing a functional, fashionable & fabulous wardrobe considering each body-shape & wardrobe quirks will allow your clients to be immersed into a world where every woman has the potential to look her best & feel fantastic.
6th Master Class: Fabric Identification, where to use what fabric
Overview: Most designers are buying from an ever-decreasing pool of fabric choices. This class empowers you to identify fabrics using your senses, so you are better equipped to do more than take the suppliers word for it, and other empowering tips. Colleen will discuss which fabrics lend themselves to certain styles, fabric combinations and the basics of knits, woven and bias cuts.
7th Master Class: Marketing and Networking yourself and business
Overview: Thriving in the clothing industry sounds like a contradiction. It is possible, but it takes preparation & effort to create momentum. We will look at what opportunities are out there, how to leverage social media, create a web presence, and discuss sustainability. You will also be exposed to Networking opportunities.
